Autumn 2025
October Half Term Reflection
Autumn is here in all its glory. My taste in food has changed just like the season. I find myself leaning towards warm soups instead of cool salad ( although I do still like to crunch on a carrot and a chuck of cucumber) I also love Nerds Gumy Clusters!! best sweet ever!! FACT!! hide them!!
Autumn is beautiful, leaves of gold, orange and red are covering the ground. They give off a satisfying crunch as I walk over them. Its mild and fresh, its windy. October is a my favourite month.
Halloween is almost here and I love halloween.
It is Friday 17th October. I woke early this morning with the urge to write, its 7am and dark outside. I had forgotten that half term was about to begin. My babies are older now, my Beautiful son is in college and almost 17 and my baby girl is in her last year of school she will be 16 in April. And, because the are are growing up and so much more independent than they once were, I almost forgot about the amazingness of October half term. I was so caught up in work that I forgot that it was time to take two whole weeks off and spend time with my babies.
Thinking back over the years when my children were growing up- I always tried to make sure that half terms were special- I would take time off from work (I made sure it was written in all my contracts) I DO NOT WORK SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. Half terms were sacred times to slow down - REST - and be together.
And even though my babies are flying towards adulthood - Im going to honour our tradition and take these two weeks off and just be at home and very present. I am going to decorate the flat with spiders webs and bake a cake with our new oven (thanks mum) I am going to do an art project and watch scary movies. I am going to give the dogs a bath (they smell like my sons gym socks), I am going to get the sewing machine out and fix the holes in my sons tracksuits, I might even do a puzzle. I AM GOING TO KEEP OUR FAMILY TRADITION ALIVE, and remind my wonderful (slightly annoying) young people how much I LOVE half term and spending time with them!! (even if they tell me get out and leave them alone). I am going to pass this no work during half term tradition on to them because slowing down and being present with your family is one of the greatest gifts in the world.
